In this guide
Use the Ministry of Education’s 2026 term dates as the starting point, then check the calendar issued by the school concerned. Admission dates, resumption of classes and the breaks between terms are different things. A national public holiday is another separate part of the year.
The three terms in 2026
First term runs from Monday 12 January to Friday 3 April. Monday 12 January is the admission day listed for Grade 1, Grade 7 in regional schools and Grade 10 in academies. The calendar gives Tuesday 13 January for the resumption of all classes.
Second term runs from Monday 20 April to Friday 17 July. Third term runs from Monday 17 August to Friday 30 October.
The gaps between terms
The gap after the first term runs from Saturday 4 April through Sunday 19 April. The gap after the second runs from Saturday 18 July through Sunday 16 August. These ranges are calculated from the published end and start dates.
The break after the third term begins on Saturday 31 October. Its end depends on the relevant 2027 school calendar, which has not been verified for this guide.
Keep school notices alongside the annual calendar
An annual term table is not a complete list of school-specific arrangements or later announcements. The Cabinet decisions of 28 August 2026 also declared Monday 5 October a school holiday in the context of World Teachers’ Day. Refer to the announcement for the education sectors covered.
For an individual child, the school’s own notices are the practical reference for attendance, examinations and special arrangements. Do not assume that every private or international school uses exactly the same calendar.
Using the dates to plan a family trip
Check the actual school calendar before reserving flights or activities. For a day out during a break, choose the place and travel time around the children in your group. A calendar date does not establish that an activity accepts a particular age or has departures available.
Keep the day manageable. One main outing, time for food and a clear return arrangement can be easier to organise than several distant stops. Use the family guide and real experience details to build that day.
What about 2027?
The 2027 school calendar has not been verified for this guide. No 2027 term dates or end-of-year break end date are supplied here. The separately announced 2027 public holidays do not establish school terms.
Your planning checklist
- Match the calendar to the school concerned.
- Separate admission day from resumption of classes.
- Check later notices and examination arrangements.
A few useful answers
Can I use these dates for every school?
Use the calendar issued by the school concerned. This page references the Ministry’s primary and secondary calendar and does not establish the dates of every private or international school.
Are the school-break ranges copied from the official table?
The official table gives term starts and ends. The gaps shown here are calculated as the following day through the day before the next term. The end of the final break is left unspecified.
