In this guide
A family itinerary works best when it leaves space for meals, rest and changes of plan. Choose a base that makes daily life simple, then add outings that fit the youngest and least confident traveller.
Check the details of the family base
Confirm room occupancy, bedding, meals and the route from your room to the beach or pool with the accommodation. A family label does not answer those practical questions.
If you expect to eat out, check the exact distance and walking route. If you will rely on a driver, agree child seats and pickup arrangements before booking.
Choose a beach day carefully
Use our beach comparison for the setting and our family-beach guide for questions to ask. Water conditions, supervision and the facilities you will actually use matter on the day.
Plan shade, drinking water, toilets and a place for a break. A beach description cannot establish suitable swimming conditions for a child or replace supervision.
Let one outing be enough
A garden visit, a short city walk or a beach can each make the main event. Leave an optional second stop that you can comfortably skip.
For a boat trip or guided walk, confirm minimum ages, equipment sizes, terrain and the return arrangements with the operator. Give them the children’s ages rather than assuming a standard itinerary fits everyone.
Keep a flexible day
Consult the forecast before a weather-dependent outing and keep a slower alternative available. A quiet meal and time at the accommodation can be a useful change of plan.
Keep the departure day light, with enough room for the journey to the airport. Start from the confirmed transfer pickup time and work backwards.
Your planning checklist
- Confirm bedding, meal and occupancy arrangements.
- Reserve suitable child seats for planned journeys.
- Ask activity operators about actual age and equipment requirements.
- Leave room for breaks and a flexible day.
