Your dates and travelling party
In this guide

A useful Mauritius budget starts with your own dates and travelling party. Keep the big bookings separate from everyday spending, then add the smaller charges that are easy to miss. The examples below were checked on 9 October 2026. They illustrate individual costs, not a complete daily budget.

Begin with the complete accommodation quote

Compare the same dates, room occupancy, meal basis and cancellation conditions. Record the full stay total, the amount due now and any balance due later. Check how the quote handles taxes and any compulsory meal or service charges.

For a Christmas or New Year stay, read the festive-meal conditions alongside the room offer. For self-catering, include the groceries and transport that suit how you intend to eat. A lower room price is useful only if the complete arrangement fits your trip.

Add the tourist fee where it applies

The Mauritius Revenue Authority sets the tourist fee at €3 per night for liable guests aged 12 or over in eligible hotels, guesthouses, tourist residences and domaines. Exemptions include under-12s, residents and several other categories listed by the MRA. Check your circumstances and whether the accommodation quote already accounts for it.

For two liable adults staying seven nights, the calculation is 2 × 7 × €3, giving €42. For two liable adults and a liable 14-year-old over the same stay, it is €63. These figures cover the fee alone.

Use dated examples for the smaller costs

my.t advertises a 30-day tourist SIM or eSIM at €30 including VAT. CHiLi lists a physical tourist SIM at MUR 900 and a tourist eSIM at MUR 999 including VAT. Choose a compatible product for your needs; the figures use each operator’s published currency.

As a limited example, two liable adults staying seven nights and buying one €30 my.t tourist connection would allocate €72 to that tourist fee and connection together. This excludes accommodation, meals, transport, flights and activities. It is not the cost of a week in Mauritius.

Aapravasi Ghat publishes free admission. A city visit can therefore include a heritage stop without an entry charge, although getting there and buying food still affect your spending.

Compare the whole journey

Put airport transfers, journeys between accommodation bases and activity-day transport on separate lines. Check whether a price applies to one passenger, the vehicle or a return journey, and whether luggage and any child seats are covered.

For a hire car, compare the rental terms, fuel, parking and any insurance excess that would affect your decision. For public transport, build the actual journeys you intend to make. Avoid converting a single short fare into a promise about your whole transport budget.

Andeor can arrange transfers through Seke. Use the details of your own route and party to obtain the relevant quote.

Choose how you want to eat

Separate meals included with your stay from those you will buy elsewhere. Decide how often you expect to cook, buy a quick meal or sit down at a restaurant. Use current menus and your own shopping list to turn those choices into an allowance.

A guided food experience and an ordinary lunch are different budget lines. Read the tastings and exclusions on the actual booking page before assuming the experience replaces a full meal. Leave some room for drinks and spontaneous stops.

Keep a simple trip total and spending record

For every booking, record the original currency, number of people, inclusions, total price and payment status. Keep a separate column for the conversion your bank actually applies. Currency conversion, withdrawal or card fees depend on your payment method.

Then add an allowance for meals, groceries and purchases, plus a contingency you are comfortable with. Keep a refundable deposit separate from the planned cost while allowing for the money it temporarily ties up. This makes it easier to understand both the expected bill and the cash you need available.

Recheck dated examples before paying. Your accommodation and activity confirmations are the final references for what you have purchased; this guide is a way to organise them.

Your planning checklist

  • Collect quotes for the actual dates and group.
  • Mark which meals, transfers and activities are included.
  • Record cancellation terms and possible extras.
  • Keep a contingency appropriate to your own circumstances.

A few useful answers

Is there one reliable daily budget for Mauritius?

No single total fits every trip. Build your amount from your actual accommodation, transport and activity quotes, then add the everyday spending you expect.

Does the €72 example include accommodation?

No. It combines only the example tourist fee for two liable adults over seven nights and one advertised €30 tourist connection.
