MauCAS QR and Juice payments in Mauritius for visitors
Understand MauCAS QR, MCB Juice and scan-to-pay in Mauritius, including account eligibility and what visitors should check before paying.

A MauCAS QR code is part of Mauritius's local payment infrastructure. Juice is MCB's banking app. They are connected ideas, but they are not the same product, and a QR code is not an invitation to pay with any banking app from any country.
What the names mean
The Bank of Mauritius introduced the national MauCAS QR standard to support interoperable payments. A compatible participating app can read the relevant merchant code. POP's explanation describes this interoperability. It does not mean that every foreign wallet, card app or camera can complete the payment. A camera might only reveal text or open a webpage. The Bank of Mauritius announcement is the primary reference for the national QR standard.
Can a tourist use Juice?
MCB's terms define a registered Juice user as an MCB account holder who has completed enrolment. Its current FAQ explains identity verification and linking accounts at other local banks. Foreign visitors should not interpret the passport-verification option as automatic eligibility for an account, nor assume that an overseas bank account can be connected. Ask the bank about your actual eligibility before relying on this method. Keep a card and rupee cash available.
Before confirming a QR payment
Use the genuine app and the merchant's intended payment route. Check the displayed recipient, amount and currency against the purchase. Never share your banking PIN or one-time code with a seller. After authorising, check the transaction status and retain the receipt. If the screen stalls, establish whether money was debited before trying again. A screenshot alone does not settle a disagreement about receipt of funds.
Some QR codes open a different process
At the airport car park, the official instructions say to scan the ticket with the phone camera first, then choose a payment method through the payment page. That is different from directly scanning a merchant code inside a banking app. Follow the instructions for the service in front of you. For an activity, a completed payment and a confirmed departure remain separate checks; see Andeor's booking-payment guide.
Does a MauCAS logo mean my foreign banking app will work?
No. Compatibility and account eligibility must be confirmed for your app. Do not make QR payment your only option for the trip.
