In this guide
Start with three decisions. Choose the kind of base you want, how you will move around, and the one or two outings you would most regret missing. The rest of the trip can grow around those choices.
Choose an everyday base
Compare the north, west, southwest, east and south by the rhythm you want. A lively town, a resort stay and a quieter coastal base are different choices. Read the area guide, then check the exact accommodation location.
Think about the things you will do every day. Meals, beach access and transport matter more to a useful base than a long list of attractions on the other side of the island.
Use the season to shape the plan
Mauritius has a warmer, humid season and a cooler, drier season, with differences between the coast and the highlands. Our monthly guide uses climate normals to help compare dates. It is not a forecast for your stay.
Put weather-dependent outings on flexible days. Avoid making your last available day the only opportunity for a boat trip or mountain walk.
Make the first day easy
Mauritius’s international airport is in the southeast. Arrange your onward journey to the actual accommodation address and confirm the meeting instructions, luggage and any child seats with your transport provider.
Review entry requirements for your own passport with the Passport and Immigration Office. Keep the relevant confirmations available offline. Leave arrival day for settling in rather than a tightly booked island crossing.
Choose fewer main outings
Give each day one main focus. A beach, a city walk or a mountain outing can each make a complete day when you include transport, meals and breaks.
Save the places that interest you and group them by area in My trip. Treat the seven-day itinerary as a starting point, then remove anything that does not suit your pace.
Your planning checklist
- Check entry requirements for every traveller’s passport.
- Confirm your accommodation address and arrival transfer.
- Choose a main outing for each active day.
- Keep one flexible day for weather or a change of pace.
