In this guide
Build a Port Louis day around one heritage visit, time at the market and a relaxed return to the waterfront. The route below is an editorial outline for exploring independently. Start by checking which places are open on your chosen day, then adapt the walking and meal stops to your group.
Start with Aapravasi Ghat while the day is fresh
The Aapravasi Ghat visitor page gives free entry and suggests about an hour for the interpretation centre and heritage site together. Its regular hours are 09:00 to 16:00 on weekdays and 09:00 to noon on Saturdays. It closes on Sundays and public holidays, and at noon on 24 and 31 December.
The site explains the history of indenture and the immigration depot. Give the interpretation centre time rather than treating the visit as a quick photograph. A guided visit needs prior booking and depends on availability; independent admission is a different arrangement.
Continue to the Central Market
After the heritage visit, make the market your next main stop. Browse at your own pace and decide whether you want a snack, groceries or simply time to look around. There is no need to buy something at every stall.
Keep enough space in the plan for a pause. An itinerary that counts only walking between points misses the time spent deciding what to eat, talking to a trader or finding a comfortable place to sit. Use the market guide if shopping is a priority.
Leave room for Chinatown and the city streets
Continue towards Chinatown if the group is comfortable with more walking. This is a chance to look at the changing streetscape and choose your own food stop. The wider Port Louis place guide gives context for the capital and its heritage.
Working religious buildings and small businesses are not automatically open to sightseeing. Follow any posted visitor rules and respect services, staff and people using the space. Decide on the day whether an interior visit is appropriate, rather than making it essential to the route.
Return to Caudan for a break
Caudan provides a waterfront stop for a meal, a drink or craft shopping. If the Craft Market interests you, its published closing time is 18:00 from Monday to Saturday and 14:00 on Sundays and public holidays. Those hours apply to the Craft Market, not every business in the complex.
Use this last stop to adjust the day. You can browse longer if the group still has energy, or head back without adding another landmark. Keep the onward journey in mind before ordering a late meal.
Choose a pace that works for your group
Wear shoes you can walk in for several hours and carry water and sun protection. The suggested stops do not form a verified step-free route. If steps, uneven pavements or sustained walking are difficult, plan fewer stops and confirm the access arrangements you need.
For a shorter visit, pair Aapravasi Ghat with Caudan and leave the extended city walk for another day. For a Sunday or public holiday, replace the closed heritage-site visit with a different plan; do not follow the weekday outline unchanged.
Agree where the journey starts and ends before setting off. A convenient drop-off does not automatically make the same point a suitable pickup later in the day.
Choose a guided food and heritage walk if you want company
Andeor offers a Port Louis heritage and street-food walk through its local partner, starting and finishing at Caudan. It is a booked experience with its own route, inclusions and departure calendar. The self-guided outline above is not a description of that paid programme.
Use the detailed Andeor guide to compare the listed tastings, walking requirements and meeting arrangements. If you need separate transport to Port Louis, Andeor can arrange it through Seke.

A few useful answers
Can I follow this Port Louis route on a Sunday?
Adapt it. Aapravasi Ghat is closed on Sundays and public holidays, so the weekday outline cannot be followed unchanged.
Is this the route of the paid Andeor food tour?
No. This is an independent editorial day outline. The linked guided experience has its own programme and inclusions.
