For a Christmas or New Year holiday in Mauritius, plan the evening arrangements alongside the beach days. Choose where you want to spend the celebrations, then check the meal, accommodation and return journey together. The official holiday dates are confirmed, but an individual venue’s programme needs its own current confirmation.
Put the four main dates in your plan
Christmas Day is Friday 25 December 2026. New Year’s Eve falls on Thursday 31 December, followed by the public holidays on Friday 1 January and Saturday 2 January 2027. The evening of 31 December and the two January public holidays need separate arrangements.
Check any activity that falls across those dates against its actual booking calendar. A normal weekly timetable does not confirm that a tour, museum or restaurant will operate over the holiday.
Choose the celebration before finalising the room
Decide whether you want an evening at your accommodation, a restaurant booking elsewhere or a quieter meal close to where you are staying. For a hotel package, read the festive-meal terms before paying for the room. Check whether the advertised total already includes the meal, and whether participation is optional or required.
Compare the same details across quotes. Record the date, number and ages of guests, drinks, children’s arrangements, any minimum stay, payment deadline and cancellation terms. If a programme is still being prepared, keep that uncertainty visible in your decision.
A venue advertising a celebration does not necessarily admit guests staying elsewhere. Confirm access for your party before arranging transport or promising children a particular event.
Plan for a warm and humid summer
Mauritius Meteorological Services describes November to April as the warm, humid summer. That is climate guidance rather than a forecast for Christmas Day. Keep an indoor or sheltered alternative for a meal or outing, and use the current forecast and warnings as your dates approach.
Leave some flexibility around a boat trip or hike. If an outdoor activity matters to you, placing it earlier in the stay leaves more room to rearrange it if the operator changes the plan. Read the booking terms so you understand what happens to a weather-affected departure.
Put the city visit on a suitable day
A holiday week can work well with a city morning between slower coastal days. Aapravasi Ghat’s published visitor hours close at noon on 24 and 31 December, and the site closes on Sundays and public holidays. Choose another day if that visit is central to your plans.
Avoid building a full museum itinerary from ordinary opening hours alone. Save the venue’s current visitor page and check for an exceptional closure before leaving your accommodation.
Book the return journey with the outward trip
For an evening away from your accommodation, specify the actual pickup date as well as the time. A journey after midnight belongs to 1 January, even if the dinner booking says 31 December. Agree the meeting point and any luggage or child-seat requirements in advance.
Andeor can arrange a transfer through Seke. Keep the agreed details and contact available on your phone. Do not assume a late-night return is included in a dinner or activity booking unless it appears in the confirmation.
Leave room for the complete holiday bill
Check the tourist fee, festive-meal charges and transfers alongside the accommodation total. Mauritius applies a €3 nightly tourist fee to liable guests aged 12 or over in eligible accommodation; exemptions apply. The budget guide explains the calculation and how to avoid counting a charge twice.
Before committing to a paid celebration, use the venue’s current programme for the correct year. Confirm the meal, access and transport details that matter to you. This guide does not list unverified fireworks or public celebrations.
Your planning checklist
- Read the festive-meal terms before paying for accommodation.
- Confirm the return pickup date for travel after midnight.
- Keep a weather alternative for outdoor plans.
