Before flying to Mauritius, have three things ready offline: your travel documents, the address of your first stay and the arrangements for getting there. Once those are settled, arrival is easier to organise without trying to plan the whole holiday at the airport.
Start with the requirements for your passport
Check the Passport and Immigration Office guidance for your nationality, travel document and reason for visiting. Make this check before booking a non-refundable journey, and again before departure. A visa allows travel to the border; admission and the length of stay are decided by immigration.
Keep your passport, accommodation confirmation and onward-travel details together. Your airline can also confirm the documents it needs for boarding and transit. Check each child’s requirements separately. Do not assume a rule quoted for another nationality applies to your family.
Complete the official travel form before flying
Use the Mauritius government’s All-in-One Travel Digital Form at safemauritius.govmu.org. The airport advises completing it before travel and carrying the resulting QR code. Include children in the preparation for your travelling party.
Save the completed document where you can open it without mobile data, and keep a printed copy if that is more convenient. The form is separate from checking whether you need a visa. Follow current airline and airport instructions if your circumstances or the form process change.
Work through arrival before making onward plans
At SSR International Airport, follow the signs and staff instructions for the arrival formalities, baggage collection and customs. Keep your accommodation address accessible instead of relying on a booking email that needs an internet connection.
If a bag is missing or damaged, speak to the airline’s baggage desk before leaving the baggage area. Keep baggage tags and the report reference. Leave a practical buffer before a transfer or another fixed appointment rather than treating the flight’s landing time as the time you will exit the terminal.
Know how you will reach your accommodation
Save your destination’s full address and the contact for your transfer or car hire. For a prearranged pickup, keep the meeting instructions and a way to report a flight delay. Agree the luggage space and any child seat requirements when arranging the journey.
Andeor can arrange airport transfers through Seke. The transfer is a separate arrangement unless your booking explicitly includes it. A confirmed collection point and destination are more useful than a generic island-wide journey estimate.
If you intend to use a bus, check the actual route, operating times and onward connection for your accommodation. For the first evening, make a simple plan for check-in and a meal before committing to an excursion.
Sort out mobile data and keep a fallback
Decide whether to use your home plan’s roaming allowance or a local tourist SIM or eSIM. Compare the full package, registration documents and phone compatibility before paying. Our SIM guide puts the three local tourist offers together.
Download the address, a map of the meeting point and the booking contact before departure. Keep these accessible even if a new SIM takes time to activate. Mauritius uses UTC+4, so check the local time on all meeting instructions.
Plan spending in Mauritian rupees
The local currency is the Mauritian rupee, MUR. Check your bank’s fees, card limits and exchange arrangements before travelling. Carry a payment option that suits smaller purchases as well as larger bookings.
Agree the price before purchasing a service. Keep receipts and distinguish a confirmed paid booking from a quote or a place saved in this guide.
Know where to ask for help
Official government information lists police emergency numbers 999 and 112, ambulance service 114 and fire service 115. Keep your accommodation and travel-insurance assistance contacts separately.
For a travel-information update, use the corrections contact in this guide. It is an editorial inbox and does not replace emergency services or a booking provider’s support channel.
Your planning checklist
- Check immigration and transit requirements for each traveller.
- Save the official travel form and your accommodation address offline.
- Confirm the pickup instructions, luggage and any child seats.
- Arrange mobile data and keep an offline contact list.
