Check both the socket shape and the electrical rating before packing. Mauritius uses a roughly 230-volt, 50-hertz supply, with British-style three-pin and European-style two-pin sockets encountered in accommodation. Confirm what your own property provides.

An adapter does not change voltage

A plug adapter changes the connection shape. It does not turn a charger intended only for 110 or 120 volts into a suitable device for a higher-voltage supply. Read the input label. Many modern phone and laptop chargers show a range such as 100–240 V, but check yours individually. Hair appliances and other higher-power equipment deserve particular attention. Use the manufacturer's guidance rather than improvising.

Pack for the devices you actually use

List the phone, camera, watch and any other equipment you need, then count charging ports and cables. A suitable multiport charger may be more convenient than several bulky adapters, provided it meets the devices' requirements. Ask your accommodation about socket types if the answer changes what you buy. Keep equipment away from wet beach bags and do not force a plug into an incompatible socket.

Make a low-battery plan

Save the meeting point, booking reference and return transport details offline before leaving Wi-Fi. Keep a power bank compatible with your airline's current carriage rules. Do not assume that a boat, beach venue or transfer vehicle offers charging. QR payment requires a working device and usually connectivity, so keep a separate payment backup. Our time guide helps prevent another avoidable problem: an alarm still set to your home time.

Will a USB cable alone be enough?

Only if the place you stay provides a suitable working USB supply. Bring a compatible charger and the adapter your accommodation requires.
