All Saints’ Day 2027 in Mauritius
All Saints’ Day falls on Monday 1 November 2027 in Mauritius and is a national public holiday. Its Christian meaning and the quiet family observances around it call for a different approach from a street festival.
Meaning and traditions
All Saints’ Day is the alternate Christian public holiday included in the official 2027 list. Keep the distinction between this date and the religious observance of Assumption on 15 August, which is not listed as a national holiday for 2027.
Family remembrance and cemetery visits call for discretion. A cemetery is not an opportunity for close photographs of mourners. If you are visiting a church or attending a service, confirm its arrangements directly. Otherwise, plan an ordinary holiday day and check each opening time on its own merits.
Understanding a quieter observance
All Saints’ Day honours the saints in Christian tradition. All Souls’ Day follows on 2 November in the Catholic calendar and is specifically associated with prayer for the dead. Families may visit cemeteries around this period, but these two observances should not be confused with each other or with Mauritius’s national commemoration of indentured labour on 2 November.
A cemetery is a place of private grief and remembrance even when it is publicly accessible. Keep noise low, avoid intrusive photographs and do not interrupt families tending graves. If attending a church service, check the parish’s own arrangements and follow the congregation’s lead respectfully.
